Big Talk: Health Careers series part 2

Long time no see everyone!

First I would like to address why I didn’t post in March. I faced a lot of schoolwork and tests as spring break approached and also had a lot of golf. As for spring break, I went to Italy and could not access my computer. However, starting this month I’ll get back to the grind and continue the 2 posts a month.

I am so excited to continue our series on public health jobs and how this vast field is full of opportunities. As I wrote applications for summer programs, I realized how much information is innate within the public health “umbrella”. Today we will discuss more jobs and the purpose they have in society today.

Health care consultant

Median Salary: $93,000

  • Range $69,170- $107,218

Job outlook: 28% growth is expected

Healthcare consultants are the core of the business sides of the medical field. They aim to help grow organizations and wisely spend money. They are beneficial when in need of improvements or redirection, and can focus on distinct areas that specific organizations need to target. Although many might not believe so, data analysis is a fundamental skill that healthcare consultants use which helps them determine how to increase revenue and provide an enhanced experience for all. They can also utilize data to help identify trends that are necessary for advancement. Overall, these workers help with the growth of organizations and help them flourish into a more efficient and modern place for people to go.

Medical and Health Services Managers

Median Salary: $104,830

  • Range $93,610-$125,280 (depending on work environment)

Job outlook: 28% growth is expected

Medical and health service managers help organize the hospitals and their schedules. They plan and coordinate business affairs and help with current and future events. Medical managers must be up to date with modern technology and know how to adapt to the quick environment of the hospital. They are typically in charge of ensuring that all healthcare regulations are met and that finances are stable and budgets are accurate. Another task that they have is they make sure that all the workers necessary are present and that the hospital regulates in an orderly manner.
